A KIND OF SPACE Office for Architecture, Research and Design is an interdisciplinary practice that works across scales and contexts to develop spatial responses to contemporary forms of living. Founded by architect Christoph Felger in 2024, the practice brings diverse perspectives into the making of space and understands architecture as a collective and contextual endeavour.

Each project begins with a clear acknowledgement of what is already present. The practice believes that building upon existing conditions rather than erasing them should be the norm and not just a response to times of social, climatic and environmental uncertainty. Reuse engages with memory and cultural continuity while retaining embodied energy. Transformation extends the life of built matter, allowing what is familiar to evolve, adapt and reassert its relevance within a changing context.

Materials are approached with attentiveness and ingenuity, valuing their origins, limitations and latent qualities. Local knowledge and craft inform their use, while imperfection is embraced as a reflection of our humanity and as a source of unexpected beauty and character that emerges through a shared process of making.

Projects are conceived as fields of interaction in which spatial, social and material forces influence one another. Architecture is understood as a medium that fosters openness, continuity and exchange, shaped by a commitment to equity, coexistence and long-term responsibility.

Collaboration is integral to the practice and embedded throughout all stages of work. Projects are developed with care and precision, acknowledging the contributions of all involved and aiming to create spaces that endure beyond immediate use.

The scope of work covers all phases from concept to design development, including detailed planning, approval processes and artistic site supervision. In addition, the practice offers pre-planning spatial consultancy, programme development and feasibility studies for projects across architectural and urban scales, understood as inherently interconnected.
